Did you know that four students from Saint Joseph’s School-Mactan joined a spelling bee held at SM?
Dahl Paalisbo from grade 7, Krystal Nudalo from grade 8, Mary Gayle Gelig from grade 9, and Emelee Nicole Agero from grade 10 together with their coach, Tr. Jocelyn Tapia, joined a nerve-breaking spelling contest at SM City Cebu last July 3, 2015.
The said contest was participated by over 29 famous private schools in Cebu – both Catholic and Non-Catholic. There were also international schools that competed. It was sponsored by Goldmine Residences and some of the prizes were furniture set and an android tablet. The contest greatly tested the students’ ability in impromptu spelling, in handling their nervousness and in speaking confidently before a podium.
The girls did their best in the first round but only one, Gayle, was able to move to the next round. In the end, a grade 10 student from St. Louis College won the 1st place and the 2nd placer was a grade 7 student from Sto. Nino Mactan Montessori School.
Even though they weren’t able to bring home the bacon, they were still optimistic and treasured the unusual experience as a student. They also considered it as a big opportunity and a way of exposure as well. Who knows, maybe next time!
